The Digital Twin Revolution

According to NASA, digital twins “are virtual replicas of physical assets, systems, or processes” that mirror reality in real time and can “help us make better-informed decisions, reduce risk, and deliver life-saving benefits to humanity”. 

NASA also explains that:

“Using a replica of Earth, NASA can detect and monitor floods, the planet’s oceans for carbon, wildfires and air quality, to name a few examples. NASA’s Wildfire Digital Twin uses AI and machine learning to forecast potential burn paths, merging data from sensors to produce precise global models”.

“In space, astronaut digital twins could play a pivotal role in predicting and mitigating health issues during missions. By integrating genomic profiles, age, gender, previous flight data and medical history, these tools could enable real-time health monitoring and personalized interventions, paving the way for safer deep space exploration”.

The innovation doesn’t stop there— according toBusiness Insider NVIDIA’s Omniverse supports factory-scale digital twins with partners like Siemens, Caterpillar, Toyota, Lucid Motors, FANUC, Foxconn, TSMC, and Wistron.

This also means that as this technology grows, compliance with global standards such as GDPR, ISO/IEC 27001, IEC 61508, and the EU AI Act is critical to ensure legal conformity, security and trust.
